An excerpt called 'The Degree of Happiness' tells about happiness that is divided into two. Which are the sort of happiness that is open to any human being and those who can read or write. The meaning of Betrand Russel's words here is that there are people who can gain happiness from the things around him, and happiness also can be gained from knowledge, books, poetry and so on and so forth.

According to him, science learners are the happiest people of all. This is due to his theory that, the scientist have the chance and capability to use their talent to the fullest. If the scientists discover something that is not only important to himself but also the public, he is considered important even though his theory cannot be understood. This is because the public will think that they are no clever enough. However, if a picture or poet, that is cannot being understood, they would be considered as bad pictures or lousy poet. This is why the scientists are happy and the artists are starving to death.
